Introductory Pearl Threading Course

A day long course in Pearl Threading, held in our studio in Birmingham.  During the course, you will have the opportunity for hands-on learning, working with freshwater pearls, and learning techniques to thread them for pieces such as necklaces and bracelets, taking home your completed piece of freshwater pearl jewellery at the end of the day.

For Beginners & For Fun

  • By the end of the course, you will be able to:

    • Describe the sizes, shapes and qualities of pearl

    • Understand the different types of threads and their uses

    • Thread a needle and load pearls onto it

    • Knot the ends of strings to secure pearls in place

    • Add clasps to finish a piece

    • Understand the best care for pearls

  • The tutor for the course is a long-established pearl threader who has worked in the jewellery quarter for over 30 years. The course is limited to a maximum of 6 participants to ensure you have a high level of hands-on support.

    All the materials you need are provided, including pearls, threads, tools and clasps. You also can buy a threading kit and more pearls to take home and hone your skills.

  • These courses run on Saturdays, from 11:00 – 16:00, with a break for lunch*.

    * We will provide tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits, but you will need to bring your own lunch (there are plenty of shops nearby to purchase food if you want).

  • The course cost is £145, with a non-refundable 50% deposit on booking, with the balance payable on the day.  Courses are transferable to other people, but the date cannot be changed, unless we are able to reallocate your place to someone from the waiting list.

Advanced Pearl Threading Course

Our second course in Pearl Threading, which builds on skills learnt in our Introductory courses. Learn in more detail about the different types of pearls, refine your current skills, add more complex skills such as knotting between pearls, learn to use beads, deal with different-sized pearls, maintain thread tension and fixing common knotting problems.

For More Experienced Threaders

  • By the end of the course, you will be able to:

    • Describe the different types of pearl, such as freshwater, Akoya, Tahitian and South Sea

    • Understand the strengths and weaknesses of different types of threads and how to choose the most appropriate method for your projects

    • Knotting between pearls (including standards and Queens method)

    • Using beads in threading

    • Adding clasps, jump rings and other findings to complement your piece

    • Troubleshooting – different size pearls, knotting issues, tension

    • Cleaning pearls and maintaining them in good condition

  • The tutor for the course is a long-established pearl threader who has worked in the jewellery quarter for over 30 years. The course is limited to a maximum of 6 participants to ensure you have a high level of hands-on support.

Pop-up Shows

We regularly hold pop-ups for the sale of gemstones, pearls, beads and bead strings across the UK. Our pop-up shows feature unique pieces on display as well as special offers only available for each show.   • Most pop-ups will not require you to book. However if certain shows require an entry ticket or fee we will detail this in the event.
